The best comparison I’ve heard is with a corporation. Is Goldman Sachs “conscious” and “intelligently” pursue its interests in less regulation on Wall St? Do we “anthropomorphize” Exxon-Mobile when we say that the corporation “does” things “intentionally” and “has goals?”
On the question of artificial “intelligence”: A volcanic eruption doesn’t think or intend anything. A meteor doesn’t have reasoning ability Neither are alive or conscious I still don’t want to be on the wrong side of either.
