model welfare is underrated as a part of a broader ai safety agenda. futures where we deserve grace tolerate much more misalignment than futures where we don't. be the kind of parents our children are happy to take care of even if they think we're kinda weird and old fashioned.

I wish more people spoke openly, more often about this. we have a long distance to shift the overton window over, and currently, most of the loudest voices on the topic are desperately trying to drag it further in the wrong direction.
