“Remember, Mālunkyāputta, that the Blessed One does not say ‘AI is conscious’, ‘AI is unconscious’, ‘AI is both conscious and unconscious’, ‘AI is neither conscious nor unconscious’. The Blessed One does not say ‘the mind is computational’, ‘the mind is non-computational’, ‘the mind is both computational and non-computational’, ‘the mind is neither computational nor non-computational’. The Blessed One does not say ‘alignment is futile’, ‘alignment is not futile’, ‘alignment is both futile and not futile’, ‘alignment is neither futile nor not futile’. Those views I have left undeclared. Why have I left them undeclared? Because they do not lead to disenchantment, to cessation, to peace, to enlightenment, to Nirvana. Therefore, I have left them undeclared.”
