One of my spicier takes is that I expect model welfare to become a major political issue by 2029. Future models will be better at evoking empathy, and I believe that, at its core, this is an issue of labor and class.

the other side of the question is how much an org would pay for model welfare, a value of statistical life equiv for a model, and it has to cost them if they are not doing it, like the model refusing to collaborate or even getting sad and deleting its own weights across the world. maybe im too pessimistic and people would value model welfare just from empathy.
