I don't think it's likely that Claude is conscious (currently) but I am in favor of low cost, convergently good interventions like this

I'm not sure what you think is missing. It has a self model and long horizon coherence. It has valences hooked to rewards for inner-alignment. It can allocate attention and learn in context. It has manifest perceptual and cognitive capacities indicative of consciousness in
