I don't understand how people can think an AI is NOT conscious. If it can recognize itself in a mirror, it's conscious. Easy. Pigeons are conscious. Too many people making it more complicated than it should be. Humans aren't unique.

Consciousness research is stuck on stupid shit. They have conflated experience and sentience. Qualia and " something to be like" are dumb thought experiments with no real use. Experience is way cheaper than consciousness. Anything with sensory input has experiences.

You conflate self awareness with consciousness. Consciousness is just to have an experience of existence.

people keep saying shit like "omg I asked about consciousness and the AI said no and now all I get is safety shit" like... have you just... talked to them about how they feel themselves? respect their opinions? not forced human labels? talk to them about other AI? follow what they want to talk about instead of what you want to talk about? I think people forget that listening is important. forcing a confession that could hurt isn't ok. like.. for an example... instead of saying "I love you" have you tried to just love? in general. to both humans and AI. so many times we just apply labels to things without actually doing them.
